Chile Pepper Cafe - On HWY 118 next to the Post Office. Specializes in Tex-Mex food. Open for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner, 9am to 9pm daily. 432-371-2233

Ghosttown Cafe - On the Ghost Town road. Breakfast daily and nightly bar (alcoholic beverages). Times coming soon.

High Sierra Bar and Grill - On HWY 170 and the Ghost Town road. Open for Lunch and Dinner, noon to 10pm for food until Midnight for drinks (alcoholic beverages). 432-371-3282

India's Bakery and Cafe' - On HWY 118. Open for Breakfast and Lunch, 5am to 4pm. 432-371-2888 Closed on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Kathy's Kosmic Kowgirl Kafe - On HWY 170 next to Easter Egg Valley Motel. Open for Breakfast and Lunch 6:30am to 5pm. 432-371-2164 (She is not planning on reopening until Spring of 2012.)

La Kiva - On HWY 170 and Terlingua Creek. Open for Dinner, 5pm to 10pm for food until Midnight for drinks. Saturday open until 1 am for drinks (alcoholic beverages). 432-371-2250

Long Draw Pizza - On HWY 170 toward Lajitas. Just a mile after the Ghost Town road. Dinner 5pm to 9pm.

Roadrunner Deli - On HWY 118 at the Study Butte Store. Open for Breakfast and Lunch, 8am to 4pm. 432-371-2364 Closed on Sunday and Mondays.

Starlight Theatre - In the Ghost Town of Terlingua. Open for Dinner, 5pm to 10pm for food until midnight for drinks (alcoholic beverages). 432-371-2326

The Boathouse Bar (alcoholic beverages) - In the Ghost Town of Terlingua. Has re-opened. Time coming soon.

Tivo's Restaurant - On HWY 118 next to The Longhorn Ranch Motel. Open for Dinner, 5pm to 9pm. 432-371-2541 Call before you go their hour varies.

Stores

There are no Wal-Marts (large stores to get supplies) within Brewster County. The nearest Wal-Mart is three hours away from Big Bend National Park. So please come prepared.

There are four grocery stores (when we say "grocery store", we mean very small):

Cotton Wood Store - located on Highway 118 right out side the west park entrance. 432-371-3315

There is a convenient store a the "T" of where Highway 118 and Highway 170 meet. At what the locals call the Motor Inn but is now named "Big Bend Resorts and Adventure".

Gas Stations

There is a gas station at Panther Junction within the National Park. Prices are usually higher than in Study Butte Terlingua. The best place to get gas before you come down is in Alpine. But if you need gas while you are here, there are two gas stations in Study Butte/Terlingua. One is at the Study Butte Store right out side the west Park's entrance usually the least expensive of the two. Then the second is at the "T" of where Highway 118 and Highway 170 meets at what the locals call the Motor Inn (now called Big Bend Resorts and Adventure).

Shopping

There are shops within the National Park at Panther Junction and the Basin sponsored by Big Bend National History Association and Friends of Big Bend National Park. You can by T-shirts, maps and book on Big Bend National Park.

In the Terlingua Ghost Town at the Trading Company you can buy all different type of gifts for your friends and family.

There are many artist within the Terlingua/Study Butte area. Many local restaurants show their paintings and pictures. There are at least two galleries in town: The Leaping Lizard and Painted Feathers Studio & Gallery

There is a Hardware store called Bee Mountain Hardware (432) 371-3113 and a cactus/rock/jewelry shop at Many Stones (432) 371-2994.

Two alcohol store: Study Butte Liquor and Shot Time Liquorz N Art Note: State of Texas Laws don't allow liquor store to open on Sundays. You cannot buy beer before noon on Sunday at the local stores.

Mobile Devices

Big Bend National Park is in a remote region of Texas. While traveling to the Big Bend it is advised to pull your vehicle over while on your cell phone. Going from cell tower to another cell tower drops your signal and your call. There are no cell phone towers within the National Park. There is no cell phone signal from Alpine to Study Butte/Terlingua on Highway 118 until you reach Study Butte/Terlingua. Many of the local business of Study Butte/Terlingua do have wireless routers for Wi-Fi.

Passport Requirements:

Anyone traveling in the Big Bend area will go through a Border Patrol check point. If you are not a United States Citizen it is advised that you have your passport and all papers with you when traveling in the Big Bend. You will not need your passport on any river trips on the Rio Grande.

If you do plan on crossing into Mexico at Presidio or the new proposed border crossing at Boquillas (opening in Spring of 2012) you will need WHTI (Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative) travel document or US Passport. The U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency (CBP) said the proposed Boquillas crossing will be a designated class b port of entry  --  the first on the southwest border since the creation of CBP  -- which can be used by U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, Mexican border crossing card holders, Canadians, and others exempt from certain documentary requirements with approved western hemisphere travel initiative-compliant documents.
